Parish Council News August 2023

STAUNTON ON WYE GROUP PARISH COUNCIL

There may be some people who like myself watched the film “ Life of Brian “. In the film
there is this wonderful conversation held amongst a group of local political radicals who
wish to get rid of the Romans which commences “What have the Romans ever done for us”.

The conversation then continues to list an amazing list of positive changes that the
Romans have brought about.

So what has your Parish Council achieved for you ? As this is not detailed regularly as
Clerk I will now advertise achievements on a monthly basis here.

BUS STOP SHELTER
The bus stop at the Village Hall now has a shelter due to regular communication with the
County Council. A roofed area and seat has now been established there on the base of the
former bus stop at no cost to the Parish Council. It is great to see regular bus users now
using this facility!

DEFIBRILLATOR EMERGENCY NUMBER NETWORK
An emergency number has now been established by which a volunteer may be contacted
should you need the Defibrillator to be brought to you in an emergency. That telephone
number will be advertised on a regular basis in the Signal. This system has been
established by Parish Councillors and the rental paid for by the Parish Council. Grateful
thanks to all those volunteers who have come forward to assist. PLEASE STORE THIS
NUMBER IN ALL YOUR PHONES LABELLED DEFIB EMERGENCY. This will
ensure you can use it easily in an emergency.
01981 216159.

PLAYING FIELD GOAL NETS
Within the next four weeks new goal posts and goal nets will be put in place to replace the
rusted and broken posts in the playing field. Those posts and netting have been purchased
by the Parish Council and we will be paying for their installation.

WAR MEMORIAL WORKING GROUP
The War Memorial Working Group has been established and is working towards the
movement of the Memorial into the heart of the community. There is a request that the
working of this group be held under the title “ The boys are coming home “. I will give a
verbal update at a future meeting of the Hub.

FUTURE PROJECTS

All ideas for future projects are welcome. Contact your local Parish Councillor.
